Please join us on Saturday, January 11th at 4pm in Lovingston at Rapunzel’s Coffee and Books to celebrate the publication of “Species of Concern,” a poetry collection by local Nelson County author Amelia L. Williams.
“Species of Concern,” examines the braided journeys of environmental and personal loss, and the accompanying processes of grasping and letting go. The book explores how grounding practices of mindfulness allow us to manage many species of concern—humans among them, both vulnerable and culpable.
Event to include:
• Species of Influence - a mixed media art display of local prints, photography, fiber art, and more
• Salon discussion and readings with Bette Dzamba (Wild Virginia) and poet Hannah Loeb (MFA, PhD) as well as an Audience Q&A
• Gift basket raffle to benefit Helene relief in southwest Virginia
• Food by Honey Bee Fed
• Book signing
These poems embed Nelson County landscapes, voicing many species of concern, from the climate crisis to everyday worries. This collection commemorates and rejoices, with stories of resilience and hopes for the future.
